We need children and young people to help us
by voting for the two priorities that they think are the most
important! (please see the list below which members came
up with)
Every two years, Young NCB members select the two most important
issues for children and young people aged 17 and under in England
today, which become the Young NCB priorities for all members to get
involved with.
At least one of the priorities will be either health or education
related. The priority relating to these topics with the highest
vote will be selected as one of our priorities.
Every Young NCB member who votes will have a chance of winning an
iPod shuffle – all you have to do is enter your name in the box
after you have selected the two priorities you think Young NCB
should be working on, and you will be entered into the prize
draw.
If you are not a member, you can still vote, but won’t be entered
in to the prize draw. If you want to be in with a chance of winning
the iPod Shuffle, become a member for free by visiting our
join up
page.
Votes will close on Sunday 29th January
2012.

1. Get Up, Get Out!
Young NCB will work to encourage children and young people to
live healthier and more active lives and discover their local
environments and communities. Let’s swap online social networking
to meet people face to face, away from our computers! An idea to
get the whole membership involved is to run a photo competition
called ‘the view outside my window’.
2. Material World – Feel Good the Way You
Are!
Young NCB would look at how children and young people measure
their happiness. We would look at ways to help children and young
people to build their confidence and we would look at issues such
as peer pressure to have the latest clothes or technology, just to
make us feel happy or ‘normal’. We would research and highlight to
the membership other things in life in order to give us a feeling
of happiness.
3. Wake Up to Your World – who makes the
decisions?
This priority would be looking at politics and current affairs.
Young NCB will look to highlight to children and young people how
changes that the Government make has an effect on the lives of all
of us, even if we aren’t able to vote. We would highlight to the
people who make decisions about what we learn in school, how
important learning about politics and current affairs is to us to
make us well rounded individuals and to help make us more aware of
what is happening around us in our worlds.
4. Youth Unemployment - there are people behind the
numbers!
Over 1 million young people are currently affected by
unemployment. Young NCB members think that hearing these reports in
the news is affecting our hopes, dreams and aspirations and leading
to depression and making us less motivated. Young NCB would look at
ways of young people becoming more employable e.g. CV advice, tips
for interviews etc.
We could engage with businesses to look at skill development and
the hopes and dreams that children and young people have for their
future. Young people shouldn’t give up hope!
5. Discrimination
Young NCB would look at what similarities and differences there
are between different groups of people in our communities, and why
people discriminate against one another and how to reduce this.
Young NCB want to see stronger communities brought together, to
celebrate the differences we all have, helping to reduce bullying
and violence.
