Survey about the stigma associated with mental health in young
people
Calling all young people, parents and those who work with young
people................we need your help.
Feeling depressed, worried, anxious – these are all mental
health problems....but:
Some young people and their families have described the
experience of stigma associated with mental health problems as at
least equal to and sometimes worse than having a mental health
problem.
How does this statement make you feel? Do you think this is
fair?
What this means is that some young people won’t go and get help
for their problem, they just suffer in silence. Would we do this if
it was a physical health problem like breaking our arm? It’s very
unlikely, yet for mental health problems, people do.
We are currently working with Time to Change (please see
http://www.time-to-change.org.uk/ )
to help develop their children and young people’s programme to
tackle the stigma associated with mental health. We wondered if you
would be happy to fill in an electronic survey for us, so that we
can understand how young people think and feel about the
subject.
Getting your views is the most important part to making sure
that this programme gets it right for young people. We want the
views of young people who have had mental health problems, and
those who haven’t.
