Are you interested in research on young people's health?
An opportunity to get involved, be heard and learn new
skills!
What's this all about?
Lots of public health research is happening, but often young
people are not asked what they think about the questions
researchers are asking, or told about what research is finding out.
The National Children’s Bureau (NCB) have been running a small
project in London to look at how young people could be involved in
public health research, and have now been given some money by the
Wellcome Trust (a charity) to set up two young people’s groups, one
in London and one in Yorkshire, which will run for two years
Who can get involved?
There will be two groups - one in London and one in Yorkshire.
So we are looking for young people who live in or near either of
these areas and are aged between 12-16.
You don’t need to know a lot about public health or research,
but we would like you to say on the application form why you are
interested in getting involved.
NCB will pay for your travel and expenses, and provide food at
all meetings and accommodation at residentials. We will also give
you a £20 gift voucher at each meeting in recognition of your time
in taking part.
What will the group do?
The groups will do lots of different things – including helping
researchers with their projects, telling other young people what
researchers are finding out (through summaries and a website which
the groups will develop), helping to organise a conference for
adults and young people to get together, and doing their own
research projects.
Your views and opinions will help to influence the Public Health
Research Consortium (PHRC) which is a group of researchers from ten
Universities across the UK who have been funded by the government
to research public health issues. We will also work with
other organisations who are doing public health research about or
with young people.
I'm interested! So what do I do now?
Please complete this application form before Thursday the 2nd of
October. If you need more information you can access a document
here which covers things in a little bit more detail.
Alternatively, if you'd like to chat to someone, please call or
email Louca-Mai Brady at NCB.
