Young NCB attend UNCRC20 celebrations
NCB celebrated
the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the
Child (UNCRC) on Friday 20 November and the considerable advances
that have been made in child policy since its ratification by the
British government. An NCB exhibition of artwork celebrating what
the Convention means to children, young people and adults working
with children was shown at Lancaster House in the St. James's
district in the West End of London.
NCB invited children and young people to take part in a unique
opportunity to help celebrate the UNCRC anniversary, by helping to
show the positive achievements that have been made in children’s
rights issues by choosing one of the Articles from the Convention
and developing a creative response in the form of an illustration,
poster, photograph, video or booklet. The pieces will also be
placed on the NCB website at the following address http://www.ncb.org.uk/uncrc20/
At the event Young NCB members acted as journalists for the day,
taking attendees pictures and adding them to a Polaroid wall with
supporting quotes about what Children's rights meant to each
them.
11 Million, the organisation led by the Children’s commissioner
for England, hosted the event for children and young people from
across the country and representatives from throughout the
children’s sector.
