Children’s Rights
Human Rights Are Your Rights Online
Human Rights belong to everyone, regardless of
how old or how young they may be. This means that children’s rights
have equal status to adults’ rights. However, children and young
people can often struggle to find information about their rights or
how to take action if their rights have been violated.
To help to rectify this the National Children’s Bureau has
produced a Human Rights are Children’s Rights guide and
some supporting materials. The guide has been written to make sure
that people who work with children and young people are familiar
with human rights legislation. We have tried to make it clear and
practical in order to encourage anyone who uses it to sit down with
the children and young people they work with to talk about how the
Human Rights Act 1998 can help and support them.
The guide provides basic information on the Human Rights Act
1998 and some background to children’s rights agreements such as
the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It also
provides a number of case studies to illustrate how the Human
Rights Act has been used in different ways to ensure that
children’s rights have been protected.
